The Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville is the first and only hotel in Northwest Arkansas to receive the Energy Star label and the second in the state of Arkansas.  The hotel is also the first hotel certified through the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce's GreeNWAy program, which recognizes local business doing business the Green Way.   The Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville has also been awarded the Silver Eco-Certification by Eco Crown Hospitality and the Sierra Club 2010 Conservation Award for Regional Business of the Year after the recent launch of a collaborative sustainability action plan for hotel guests and employees.
 
This recognition provides a standard for environmentally conscious travelers to the area while highlighting the Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville as an eco-leader on common travel websites such as Travelocity and Expedia. Eco Crown Hospitality globally recognizes hotels, resorts and restaurants awarding audited certifications based on six key areas ranging from operational practices and guest education to waste handling and the local economy. 
 
“We feel it is our social responsibility as leaders in the Fayetteville business and hospitality community to set an example and do what we can to reduce and recycle waste whenever possible,” said TJ Angeleno, General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott, Fayetteville and Sustainability Coordinator for Vista Host properties. 
 
In addition, the Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville has been rated as a Two Green Eco-Leaf Hotel by www.iStayGreen.org; having possessed over 70 unique eco-friendly initiatives.  The hotel is also a member of the Green Valley Network.
 
With the Courtyard’s recently launched Sustainability Action Plan, the hotel has taken an aggressive approach to Marriott’s company wide plan, Marriott’s Spirit to Preserve, to offset the carbon footprint by guests and hotel operations. The plan includes an on-site sustainability coordinator and green team, guest and back of the house recycling programs, guest linen and terry re-use programs, and shut down procedures for water and energy conservation.
 
 “Our team’s goal is to cut back on waste throughout the hotel, including water conservation, electrical conservation, and recycling, while creating awareness for our guests and associates that they can take home with them,” said Angeleno.
